Mounties recover 15 stolen vehicles, accessories from chop shop east of Calgary

Several Calgary vehicles have been recovered from a chop house east of the city.

The RCMP’s Southern Alberta Crime Reduction Unit (SACRU) identified the chop shop near Chestermere earlier this month after the Calgary Police Service led them to a stolen vehicle parked nearby.

Investigators with SACRU, Strathmore RCMP, and the RCMP auto Theft Unit searched the property and found several stolen vehicles, including and eight pickup trucks, two SUVs, a Cat Skid Steer, a flat deck utility trailer with skid steer attachments, a small utility trailer, an Arctic Cat side-by-side, and a Honda quad.

The value of all the stolen property is estimated to be between $550,000 and $600,000.

Police say two of the stolen vehicles they found had been chopped up beyond repair. one pickup truck had its VIN changed. The other seven cars seemed to be untouched.

Detectives believe that two of the vehicles were stolen from Calgary dealerships when they were taken out for test drives.

Charges have not yet been laid as Mounties say the investigation is ongoing.
