EA Sports adding international women’s teams to NHL 22

The best women’s hockey players in the world are coming to a (virtual) rink near you soon.
EA Sports announced Thursday that women’s hockey’s biggest stars — including Canada’s Marie-Philip Poulin and the USA’s Hilary Knight — will be added to the NHL 22 video game this January as part of a larger partnership with the IIHF.
The update will feature the Women’s World Hockey Championship tournament for the first time and the teams in that tournament will also be available in Play Now mode.

The World Junior Hockey Championships are also joining the game for the first time in a new update rolling out this month. Fans will be able to compete as their favourite team with updated rosters in a new World Juniors tournament mode as well as in the Play Now, while players, uniforms and logs will be available in Hockey Ultimate Team and World of Chel. In early 2022, the men’s World Hockey Championships will be added to tournament mode.
“The introduction of women’s national teams to NHL 22 as part of the upcoming IIHF content will be an important moment for the franchise in its continued effort to reflect the diversity of the hockey community,” said Sean Ramjagsingh, VP and GM, EA SPORTS in a statement. “We are proud to feature playable women’s teams for the first time in NHL 22, alongside the rising stars on the World Juniors teams.”
