Due to the power outage, several services in the mountain town have been forced to cease operations for the day including schools and gas stations.
Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, a popular ski resort located just west of the town, was also forced to close up shop for the day.
Due to a major power outage in Golden and area the mountain will be closed today. Currently BC Hydro estimates to have the power restored by 4pm. We will continue to assess the situation and stay in contact with BC Hydro, and will provide updates as they become available.
