B.C. man facing charges related to deadly summer crash west of Calgary

A 50-year-old B.C. man is facing charges after a deadly crash west of Calgary this summer.

In mid-august, a multi-vehicle crash involving a semi, cube van, and car claimed the lives of a couple in their 70s from Invermere.

RCMP said at the time that investigation, which was in its early stages, had indicated the cube van was heading east on Hwy. 1, west of Morley, when it drove through the grass median and into oncoming traffic.

Police say the van collided head-on with a white car.

A semi-truck that was travelling westbound was unable to avoid the crash and rear-ended the car, while another cube van that was also travelling westbound struck the semi-truck.

The two occupants of the white car, a 75-year-old woman and a 78-year-old man, were confirmed dead on scene.

The wreck closed down a section of highway one for around nine hours for the investigation and cleanup.

A man from New Westminster now faces charges including dangerous driving causing death and criminal negligence causing death.
