Two women killed in crash east of Airdrie

Two women are dead after a crash just east of Airdrie in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
RCMP say shortly before 1 a.m., two cars were driving in opposite directions on Hwy. 9, just south of Range Road 262, when they hit each other head-on.
It’s believed the car travelling southbound had crossed the centre line and struck the car heading northbound.

The lone driver of the car heading southbound, a woman in her 70s, and the lone driver of the opposing vehicle, a woman in her 50s, were declared dead on scene.
Police are continuing to investigate the crash but don’t believe alcohol was a contributing factor.
