The Alberta Motor Association is warning people about a text scam making the rounds about licence plate stickers — stickers that were eliminated by the province last year.
The AMA says it has been getting complaints from people saying they received the texts from someone claiming to be from Service Alberta. That text claims the person is in line for a $120 refund.
The person receiving the text is then asked to fill out banking information for a direct deposit.

According to the AMA, “stickers marking the month and year of registration will no longer be issued nor needed as of January 2021.”
“[Beginning] Fall 2021 the province will replace the old plates as they transition to high definition reflective license plates that are to be scanned by police to validate your vehicle registration,” the association previously said.
The AMA says if you get the text, you should delete it immediately.
