Calgary police urge protestors to steer clear of the Beltline area

The Calgary Police Commission are holding a meeting Friday with Beltline business owners and residents to discuss concerns over ongoing protests.

Commission Chair, Shawn Cornett says she’s received hundreds of emails and phone calls about the weekly demonstrations.
She says the situation is “an extremely complicated and unprecedented situation that needs to find a way to stop.”
CPS and community members met to discuss how the weekly demonstrations and protests have impacted residents in the Beltline.
Cronett says she understands the impact protests have on the area, and hopes to see an end in the near future.

They say their concerns for the disruption, safety of residents and employees, and overall impact on the reputation of downtown Calgary are very real and they empathize with them.
CPS says they spoke with community members and listened to their concerns over the continued demonstration and recent escalating tensions between the freedom protesters and counter-protesters.
At this point, weekend protests have become an ongoing concern in the Beltline community say CPS.
Despite COVID-19 health measures being lifted in Alberta, the weekly protests in Calgary’s Beltline have continued and residents in the area are getting fed up with the disruption to daily life.
Calgary police are urging anyone who intends to protest in the Beltline this weekend to stay away.
