A woman who was stabbed and killed in downtown Calgary on Friday was the victim of a random attack, according to police.
CPS says 31-year-old Vanessa Ladouceur was stabbed near 1st street and 10th Avenue on Friday around 6:40 a.m.
After reports of an assault, police arrived and found the woman unconscious.
First responders tried to save her but she died on scene.
Twenty-six-year-old Michael John Adenyi has been charged with first-degree murder and made his first court appearance Monday morning.

The victim’s family says they are “devastated and heartbroken” by the loss.
Her mom told CityNews her daughter was a compassionate person who “cared about the homeless and the hungry in our city.”
“She would buy coffee or food to help those she could,” Erika Ladouceur said of her daughter, adding she was “beautiful inside and out.”
She said the 31-year-old was well known in Calgary’s health and fitness community.
Police say there was no connection between Ladouceur and Adenyi.
“Any loss of life is tragic, but especially in situations like this,” said Sgt. Sean Gregson. “This type of senseless violence has no place in our community, and we know that this incident has impacted many Calgarians.”
Ladouceur’s death is Calgary’s fourth homicide of 2022.
