‘A significant concern’: Calgary police investigate three separate deaths since Friday

Three separate incidents that left three people dead since Friday have Calgary police significantly concerned about the level of violence being seen in the city.

The first incident was one that has left many people in Calgary stunned after a woman was randomly stabbed and killed on Friday morning.

CPS says 31-year-old Vanessa Ladouceur was attacked near 1st street and 10th Avenue around 6:40 a.m.

After reports of an assault, police arrived and found the woman unconscious. First responders tried to save her but she died on scene.

Twenty-six-year-old Michael John Adenyi has been charged with first-degree murder and made his first court appearance Monday morning.

Fight leads to one man dead

The second incident happened later on Friday afternoon, when police responded to reports of a man who was taken to hospital with injuries consistent with a fall.

The man died from his injuries on Saturday.

He has since been identified as Austin Harris, 27.

Police say, due to several inconsistencies with his injuries, the homicide unit was called in to investigate.

Following an investigation, police believe the man got into a fight with someone he was known to.

In that instance, a 31-year-old man was taken into custody and has been charged with manslaughter.

Brazen shooting at busy intersection

Finally, around midnight on Monday, police were called after reports of shots being fired at 16 Avenue and 4 Street NW.

Upon arrival, police found one man dead inside a 2009 Chevrolet Avalanche not far from the scene of the shooting.

Witness reports say the truck was parked at a red light when another car pulled up and fired several shots into the truck. Police say they believe the shooting was targeted.

“This was a significantly violent attack on a busy road in our city,” said Staff Sgt. Sean Gregson. “While we are still relatively early in the investigation, we are dedicating a number of resources to suppress further violence and hold those responsible accountable.”

Anyone with more information on any of the incidents is being asked to contact police at 403-266-1234.
