The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has opened an investigation into a Calgary police officer’s use of force during the booking of an arrest.
Police say it happened in the early morning hours of Sunday, March 20, when the officer in question got into a scuffle with the 25-year-old arrestee at the arrest processing section. The 25-year-old was brought in on outstanding warrants.
They were assessed by medical staff and taken to hospital to be cleared as fit for cells and were released back into police custody later that day.

At around 11 p.m. that night, security cam footage showed the arrestee appearing to have a seizure in their cell. They were transported back to hospital after receiving medical attention, where they now remain in stable condition.
Police say the officer has been with the Calgary Police Service for eight years and is currently working in an administrative role while ASIRT investigates.
