Two people injured after serious crash on Calgary’s Deerfoot Trail: police

Calgary police say two people were taken to hospital, one with life-threatening injuries and another with serious injuries, after a two-vehicle crash on Calgary’s Deerfoot Trail.

The crash happened on Saturday around 3:10 a.m. on the northbound Deerfoot Trail just north of 16 Avenue.

Police say a 2017 Toyota Prius Checker Cab was temporarily pulled over and was struck by a 2009 Volkswagen Tiguan.

The Tiguan was heading north on Deerfoot Trail when it struck the cab on the rear driver-side end.

According to the police release, the collision caused the Tiguan to spin out of control onto the road into the right lane facing south of Deerfoot Trail.

The driver of the Tiguan was not left with any injuries while the driver of the Prius had serious injuries and one of the vehicle’s passengers was left with life-threatening injuries.

Calgary police had roads closed in the area for a few hours while they investigated. Those roads have since reopened.

Police do not believe speed or alcohol were a factor in the collision.
