Woman dies in southeast Calgary house fire

A woman died in a fire at a duplex in the southeast Calgary community of Forest Lawn on Tuesday night.

Police say crews responded to the fire just after 9 p.m. in the 2600 block of 39 Street.

According to Calgary fire, the flames were coming from a bedroom on the upper floor of the building. Within the room was a woman who was unresponsive.

Emergency crews took the woman to the front yard where they tried to revive her, but despite thier best efforts, she died at the scene.

Damage to the building is said to have been kept mostly to the room of origin, while there was some minimal damage to other units in the building.

Around 10 people have been forced from the building and are working with the Red Cross for temporary shelter.

The Calgary Police Arson Unit and fire investigators are still looking into a cause.
