A new poll finds UCP members want Jason Kenney turfed as a leader but a number of former MLAs have signed a letter supporting him.
Around 19 former Progressive Conservative and Wildrose MLAs have signed a letter endorsing Jason Kenney’s leadership.
The former MLAs main point is that a leadership race would put the party behind the NDP in preparing for the 2023 election.
They note the new leader likely wouldn’t be selected until October, and then would need to assemble a cabinet and table a budget, all while Rachel Notley and the NDP are out knocking on doors.
Among those signing the letter released today by the Kenney leadership campaign are former Finance Ministers Iris Evans and Pat Nelson.

The letter doesn’t come off as a ringing endorsement of Kenney’s time as premier, but more of a warning to those that want him gone and what a leadership race would look like at the time.
If a new leader was chosen, the party would only have around six months to prepare for the 2023 election.
The Kenney leadership campaign team released the letter a day after a Think HQ poll found more than 60 per cent of UCP members they surveyed wanted Kenney removed as leader.
