Calgary man arrested, charged after spree of downtown sexual assaults

Calgary police have laid a series of charges against a man relating to five sexual assaults last Saturday, April 2, in downtown Calgary.

These incidents took place at around 1:40 p.m. within the span of 30 minutes as the suspect targeted bystanders between the 600 block of 6 Street SE and the City Hall LRT station.

Police have provided a map of the route the suspect took during the time of the incidents.

Calgary police have provided a map of the route they believe the suspect took during the time frame of when the assaults occurred in hopes of further locating anyone who may have information about this incident.

Sergeant Matt Hinchey with the District 1 Violent Crime Investigation Team said these stranger sexual assaults are distressing and encourages the public to report these incidents to local authorities.

“We understand stranger sexual assault can be shocking and confusing for both the victim and the bystanders,” said Hinchey, but added, “We want to encourage bystanders and victims to report this behaviour to police, so we can investigate and support a safe community for all.”

The suspect is facing three charges of sexual assault and police say that additional charges are pending.

The suspect is set to appear in court later this month.
