Calgary’s McMahon Stadium decommissioning sound system

The sound system at Calgary’s McMahon Stadium, uniquely suspended over centre field, is being decommissioned after 35 years, ahead of the start of the 2022 CFL season.

A statement The McMahon Stadium Society (MSS) says the decision was made “after consultation with engineers, stadium management, the University of Calgary, the City of Calgary, and out of an abundance of caution for the safety of participants and spectators.”

It appears as though a replacement is on the way, as MSS says it’s in the process of designing a new sound system that will be able to deliver the “resounding audio” that people have come to expect.

MSS says it let the Calgary Stampeders know about the changes early on and the football team will have a say on what form the new system takes.

In the meantime, however, it looks like a temporary sound system will be used for some or all Stampeders games this season.

Although there will be a new look, MSS says the game day experience will continue to thrill.
