Some Calgary highways, communities to have traffic photo radars installed in May

By Rachneet Randhawa and Camae Marayag

Calgary Police Service has announced mobile photo radars will be set up on Crowchild, Glenmore, Deerfoot, Macleod, Sarcee, and Stoney trails.

Apart from these, there will be 58 intersection safety camera (ISC) locations throughout the city.

These cameras can photograph vehicles entering intersections during all phases of traffic signals, including red-light infractions.

Police say the cameras help to reduce collisions and allow for a safer driving environment at intersections.

The “speed on green” initiative uses up to 55 of these ISC locations to capture vehicles that speed through green and yellow lights.

Typically, speeds in excess of 50 km per hour over the speed limit result in the driver most likely showing up to traffic court, according to the City of Calgary.

A full list of the ISC locations can be found on the City of Calgary website.
