Calgary Police lay more charges for sexual assault against cardiologist

By CityNews Staff

A Calgary man is now charged with five counts of sexual assault after four more people came forward with allegations against him.

Police say the accused was originally charged with one count of sexual assault after he allegedly inappropriately touched one of his patients without consent in December 2012.

Police say it happened in the cardiologist’s office while the woman was in for her appointment, and it now appears that four other women were assaulted during that time.

“Everyone should feel safe when seeking medical care,” said Staff Sergeant Michelle Doyle with the Calgary Police Service Sexual Assault Investigative Unit. “It is especially egregious when members of our community are victimized by an individual in a position of trust.”

The suspect is set to appear in court later this month.
