Lord Stanley’s Cup in Alberta for NHL playoffs

A very special guest made an appearance at Rogers Studios in downtown Calgary this afternoon.

The Stanley Cup was here for pictures for a couple of hours.

The keeper of the cup, Mike Bolt, was on Sportsnet 960 and says his job never gets old.

“That’s how you get your job you know – I didn’t dream of looking after it I dreamed of winning it like any Canadian kid you want to win it before you look after it. But the second-best job maybe in hockey is looking after the cup,” said Bolt.

It can also get quite emotional when winning players get the cup for one day in the summer.

“We’re rolling up to a player’s home and it’s their first time having the Stanley Cup in their home with the family, the parents who drove them to the practices in the early morning ranks and all that stuff, you see parent’s well up when the cup’s in their house,” said Bolt.

The cup will be in Okotoks tonight for Rogers hometown hockey, where fans can also watch tonight’s Flames game.

Lord Stanley dropped by the studio earlier today as the Calgary Flames play at home tonight, hosting the Dallas Stars. Their playoff series is all tied up at two games apiece.

Crowds of Flames fans are set to descend on the Saddledome, Red Mile, and Red Lot prior to puck drop, hoping to keep the momentum going in this crucial game.

Don’t forget to stay with CityNews Calgary and Sportsnet for the latest on the NHL Playoffs.
