Calgary police are releasing CCTV footage and are urging witnesses of a fatal “road rage shooting” that occurred late Tuesday to come forward, in hopes to further the investigation.
While police have in the process of reviewing CCTV footage, CCTV, cell phone and dashcam footage from the area and spoken to some drivers in the area, police are “appealing once again to the public for any additional information that may aid the investigation.”
On Tuesday around 11:10 p.m. police received reports of two vehicles, a red Chevrolet Silverado and a grey Volkswagen Jetta chasing each other down southbound 36 Street with the people inside firing at each other.
When they got to the intersection of 17 Avenue, the Silverado struck a silver van that was trying to make a turn.
The collision sent the van careening into a nearby parking lot, while the occupants in the other vehicles got out and continued shooting.
The driver of the silver van, Angela Mckenzie, a 40-year-old woman, was killed.
“From the initial processing of the scene it does not appear the silver van being driven by Mckenzie was struck by any firearm rounds,” a release from police reads.
Several homes were struck by gunfire.
Police have secured both the offending truck and van involved in the incident and continue to investigate. Police add that the truck was stolen.
“Several areas of the Service are working together to investigate and determine exactly what led up to the shooting and subsequent death of Angela McKenzie,” Staff Sgt. Sean Gregson said in a statement.
In speaking with witnesses so far, they’ve told police two suspects left the scene however, Gregson says “through a review of CCTV to this point, it is undetermined if two people fled the vehicle.”
“We have verified that the truck was stolen and have a description of the main suspect who fled the scene after the collision,” Gregson added.
“This suspect remains at large, and we encourage anyone with information about their identity or whereabouts to contact police.”
CCTV photos and video is available on The City of Calgary Newsroom.
CPS says one suspect who fled that scene after the collision is described as a 25-year-old to 30-year-old man with a medium wearing a baseball cap and was carrying a laptop-style bag.
