A live music show for children is coming up in Calgary.
A co-collaboration between Calgary Promusica and Green Fools Theatre is mixing puppets and ensemble music.
It’s the first time the collaboration has happened since COVID-19 pandemic restrictions prevented live performances.
Live theater and artistic performances took a major hit during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Calgary-based Green Fools Theater Society (Studio G) is rehearsing for its first public show since the pandemic hit.
The classic tales of Little Red Riding Hood and The Three Little Pigs are what’s in the works. The performance is a co-production between Green Fools and Calgary Promusica.
“It’s nice to be performing again, happy to get in front of audiences again,” said Dean Bareham, artistic director of Green Fools Theater.
Don’t let the idea of this show being geared towards kids make you think it’s not sophisticated.
The artistic director at Calgary Promusica, Dean O’Brien, says they are all about live music of the highest quality.
“And I think the whole idea of kids being able to see about what music is and how strong a communicative thing it is,” said O’Brien.

Bareham says the pandemic was a time for creatives in the company to create online content and work on puppet building so it did have benefits but nothing compared to live shows.
“Watching live puppets, hearing live music as opposed to just watching something on a tablet,” said Bareham.
The performances of Little Red Riding Hood and The Three Little Pigs take place on Sunday, May 15.
Get tickets at calgarypromusica.ca or at the door. The show is performed in the Rozsa Center at the University of Calgary.
“These are highly trained professional musicians, it’s something we all really love to do,” said O’Brien.
