Flames coach behind bench for 11th career Game 7, most in NHL history

It’s a big night for the Flames and the team’s head coach.

Daryl Sutter is going to be behind the bench for his 11th career Game 7, which is the most in NHL history among coaches.

“It’s just one game. You know there is a Game 7 because the teams are even, the series are even so you just kind of get in the moment,” said Sutter.

“This series deserves to have a Game 7. The score’s 12-12 in the moment.”

Sunday night will mark the first Game 7 for Calgary since 2008 and the first one at the Saddledome since 2006.

Flames fever was alive and well Sunday, with fans preparing to watch their team in an elimination game against the Dallas Stars.

Forward Mikael Backlund knows the atmosphere at the Saddeldome is going to be electric.

“It’s going to be awesome playing in front of the ‘C of Red’ again and maybe we wanted to finish it last time but it is what it is, and now we have to come out (Sunday) and play our best game so far,” said Backlund.

Matthew Tkachuk says the team is ready to bring on the heat.

“Very excited (and) ready to go here tonight. And most of us, it’s our first Game 7 tonight and just super excited and just grateful for the opportunity to do it at home,” said Tkachuk.
