Improvements to North Pointe Park and Ride Lot in north Calgary complete: City

The City of Calgary has announced the completion of improvements to the North Pointe Park and Ride Lot in Country Hills Village, as part of the North Central Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) improvement projects plan.

The City says renovations to the lot began in 2021, and are meant to improve accessibility and safety for transit riders.

Calgary Transit says it includes the addition of a bus-only lane, and installation of sidewalks along both sides of the bus-only lane.

The City adds the cut-through transit lane will help streamline bus service in the lot, which will improve overall trip times.

Project manager Brian Tang says the improvements are a great first step to making north Calgary — including Stoney Trail — more accessible.

“With construction now complete, we will begin to plan for future projects and look forward to implementing more improvements along the North Central BRT route over the coming years,” Tang said.

The City says the $2.5-million project added four bus stops to the area, and will give people in north Calgary better transit options, as the community grows.

The improvements to the Park and Ride Lot were made with the future Green Line LRT in mind.

“Green Line has committed $50 million to improve Bus Rapid Transit in north central Calgary to augment transit connectivity between downtown and the north central communities in the short-, medium-, and long-term,” said Darshpreet Bhatti, CEO, Green Line. “These improvements will also support the future transition to LRT along the corridor as funding is committed and the full 46 km vision for the Green Line LRT is realized.”

More renovations along the North Central BRT route are planned for this year.

“It’s great to see that the newly improved North Pointe Park & Ride is now open,” Ward 3 Councillor Jasmine Mian said. “Residents came out to tell me they are happy to see the upgrades to transit safety and accessibility. I’m supportive of the continued work to improve transit and mobility in north central Calgary – it’s much needed.”
