Calgary police have charged a 58-year-old man in connection with damage done to the Peace Bridge last week.
Brian Douglas Jensen is facing several charges, including two counts of causing damage exceeding $5,000, a count of disturbing the peace, one of possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, one of breaches of a conditional sentence order, and a bylaw infraction for unlawful disposal of waste in a park.
Police say around 70 glass panels along the walkway were smashed early Sunday morning. Each pane is estimated to cost around $12,000, the city has previously said, with total repairs potentially costing $840,000.
“There was a vandal that decided to willfully damage the rail and hit the glass,” Charmaine Buhler, Bridge Maintenance Manager at Calgary Roads, told CityNews on Monday.

Sunday’s damage came after a similar incident on June 18. At that time, officers received reports that a man was shattering glass panels along the bridge just after 1 a.m., though only one was broken.
Investigators previously said it was believed one suspect may have been involved in both instances.
Jensen is set to appear in court on Friday, Aug. 5.
