The Calgary International airport has put in place a lightning advisory as severe weather rolls through the area.
The city and surrounding areas are under a severe thunderstorm warning, as a line of storms moves across Southern Alberta.
At 6:35 p.m. MDT Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing very strong wind gusts, up to nickel-size hail, and heavy rain.
This severe thunderstorm is near Sundre to Bragg Creek and is moving east at 40 km/h.
A lightning advisory means workers can’t go onto the tarmac, meaning delays are expected for both arriving and departing flights.
Large hail can also damage property and cause injury and severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes.
Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year.
