Police are investigating after a truck smashed into a restaurant, injuring multiple people including a bartender who was pinned by the vehicle.

Emergency crews were called to Sammy’s Chophouse Saturday near 31 Street and 34 Avenue S.E. after receiving reports of a truck running into the front of the building.

Calgary police Acting Staff Sgt., Richard Wiebach, says there is no police report on the file, indicating that it’s non-criminal in nature.

“The vehicle went through the front of Sammy’s Chophouse injuring several people and pinning the bartender,” said Wiebach.

Wiebach says it was most likely not criminal in nature and appears to be an accident.

“It was a mistake made by the vehicle driver as far as [the] operation of the vehicle,” said Wiebach.

Wiebach says six people were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

EMS officials say paramedics assessed several people on the scene and four people were transported to the hospital including two adult woman, one in non-life-threatening but stable condition and another woman who was in serious but stable condition, both of who was transported to Foothills Hospital.
A third adult woman in non-life threatening but stable condition went to South Health Campus and lastly, one elderly male in non-life threatening but stable condition went to the Peter Lougheed Centre.
EMS say the people hurt will likely need some sort of follow-up for their injuries.
Calgary police say investigations will be ongoing.
