A fire broke out, along with an explosion, in the Ramsay area Wednesday morning, according to witnesses and the Calgary fire department.
At 10:15 a.m., Calgary fire received calls about a detached garage on fire on Maggie Street SE in Ramsay. When fire crews arrived, the garage was engulfed in flames.
Carol Henke, public information officer with the Calgary Fire Department, says witnesses saw an explosion from the garage in the morning.

“The garage was very full of a variety of things. And initial assessment and investigation shows that it might the fire might be related to some welding equipment that was being used,” Henke said.
“The garage itself is basically destroyed, it’s completely destroyed. And as a result of the radiant heat, there was some melted siding on some proximal buildings,” Henke said when asked about nearby damage. “So there is some damage to buildings that are not part of that particular property.”
Henke says that no injuries were reported.
Calgary fire is still investigating if anyone was home at the time, but says the fire is related to welding equipment that was used at the time.
