A Calgary family has been displaced after their home caught fire early Tuesday morning.
Calgary Fire says crews were called to a home in the southeast community of Penbrooke Meadows just before 3 a.m.
When they got there, two adults and seven children were waiting for them in the front yard.
Firefighters say heavy smoke was billowing from the front door, and they had to push through zero-visibility conditions and high heat to find the source of the fire in the basement.
Crews quickly knocked down the fire and determined the home was significantly damaged from the heat and smoke.
Calgary Fire says this incident serves as a reminder to make sure your smoke alarms are working and you have an escape plan for your home.
It’s unclear what caused the fire. No injuries were reported.
