Two Calgary men on Canada’s top most-wanted list

Calgary police are looking to the public for help in determining the whereabouts of two fugitives. Kier Byran Granado and Talal Ahmer are among Canada’s top ten most wanted.

Two Calgary men are wanted Canada-wide through the BOLO Program and its 25 most wanted in Canada, and one of them was allegedly involved in the death of an innocent Calgary woman.

The BOLO Program, with BOLO standing for “be on the lookout,” offers financial incentives “for citizens to be on the lookout and submit tips to the authorities.”

Police say one of the men, 29-year-old Talal Amer, was involved in a case where a woman was killed amid gunfire in the streets of Calgary early this year.

Calgary police say two vehicles were driving erratically while exchanging gunfire along 36 Street SE at around 11:10 p.m. on May 10.

The two vehicles crashed into two other vehicles at the intersection of 36 Street and 17 Avenue SE, and police add that two homes were struck with stray gunfire.

Officers say the occupants of the two vehicles continued to exchange gunfire before fleeing the scene.

First responders say one of the vehicle owners, 40-year-old Angela Mackenzie, died at the scene.

The BOLO Program place Amer in the 6th spot of Canada’s most wanted with a $50,000 reward.

“The death of Angela McKenzie was tragic and will continue to have a lasting impact on Calgarians. We are committed to doing everything within our power to locate Talal Amer and ensure that he is held accountable,” Staff Sgt. Sean Gregson said.

Amer is wanted on seven Canada-wide warrants that include manslaughter, attempted murder, and charges related to the prohibited use of a firearm.

Another Calgary man is on the list in the second spot after evading police for seven years.

At around 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 15, 2015, police say there was a shooting in an alley at Del Ray Road NE near Del Ray Crescent NE.

When police arrived, they say a 26-year-old man, Hussein Merhi, was in medical distress, and later died at the scene.

Nearly four years later in July 2019, police charged 26-year-old Joseph Trieu with one count of accessory to murder.

Afterwards, a Canada-wide warrant was issued for 26-year-old Kier Bryan Granada for first-degree murder.

Police describe Granado as about five-feet tall, 80 lbs., with brown eyes, and a full-sleeve left-arm tattoo.

“Regardless of how much time has passed following an incident, we will continue to seek justice for the families of our homicide victims. We know that people out there know where Granado is and we are asking them to come forward and help us provide closure to the victim’s family,” said Staff Sgt. Martin Schiavetta in a statement.

Anyone with information related to the investigations or on the whereabouts of Amer and Granado is asked to call police, with officers saying no matter “how significant, or insignificant, the information may seem, we want to know about it.” People can also leave a tip anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

The BOLO Program started in 2018 to help police services to reach wider audiences.
