Halloween candy had no fentanyl: Alberta RCMP investigation

Halloween candy that investigators initially believed contained fentanyl turned out not to have any traces of the drug, the RCMP in Alberta says.

The candy was first found by a Rocky Mountain House parent in their child’s trick-or-treating stash on on Nov. 2.

Mounties shared an update Thursday after testing the treats.

“Despite the initial presumptive positive test for the presence of Fentanyl, additional testing by the lab has not produced a positive test for a controlled substance,” said RCMP in a statement.

When it was first reported, officers said the child’s parent found three pieces of a “dark, unknown substance.”

The substance was in plain sight, with the RCMP saying there was “no intent to camouflage it in the candy.”

Investigators say what exactly the substance is is still unknown.
