“The royal fluffy one and its honourable parents, Grace and Henri, will be remaining on the great indoor beach,” said the zoo in a tweet.
???? Hear ye, hear ye! ???? The royal fluffy one and its honourable parents, Grace and Henri, will be remaining on the great indoor beach while other penguins may venture outdoors. This is to ensure the most suitable temperature for one so small. ???????? #YYCPenguinStory #AnimalWelfare pic.twitter.com/aRU8ZO1Pjv

Meanwhile, other penguins will be allowed to linger outside.
The zoo says its “king penguin chick” was born on September 24, 2022.
“By royal decree, we’re pleased to announce the arrival of the newest member of our royal waddle,” said the zoo on its website. “A tiny king penguin chick hatched into the world on September 24th to king penguin parents, ‘Grace’, and ‘Henri’.”
“This fluffy chick is the first offspring of sire (dad), Henri and the fourth offspring of dam (mom), Grace, making it the eighth successful king penguin chick to hatch at the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo, as part of the Species Survival Plan (SSP) breeding program.”
The zoo says on its website not all penguins like the ice, as there are some penguins that come from Peru and Chile.

“It’s easy to imagine penguins waddling over the frozen wastelands of Antarctica, but not all penguins prefer the ice,” said the zoo on its website. “Humboldt penguins come from Peru and Chile where they live on islands and rocky cliffs along the coast. Even gentoos are found as far north as some southern islands off South America.”
