Calgary restaurants eager for New Year’s Eve celebrations

Calgary restaurants and bars are eager to see Saturday night’s New Year’s celebrations look more like pre-pandemic days.

Jimmy Scott, the general manager at Jamesons Pub on 17 Avenue, says it’s expected to be a busy night – unlike last year.

“We’ve got live music… we’ve got lots of tickets sold and reservations booked,” he said.

Scott says the COVID-19 situation is simply not the same this year.

“It’s completely different. Last year there was definitely a wave going through amongst our guests and our staff.

“It’s nice to get back to the packed room.”

Last year on New Year’s Eve, many Calgary restaurants were forced to shut down due to staffing shortages.

Meanwhile, as Canada’s ban on plastics comes into effect starting the beginning of the new year, Scott says his restaurant has switched to compostable containers for take-out orders.
