The Calgary Police Service (CPS) says two men have been charged in relation to a stabbing that happened outside of a library in Northwest Calgary on Monday.
Officers say around 3 p.m., two men were allegedly trying to sell narcotics outside the Louise Riley Library, which is located on 14 Avenue NW.
Police say a 46-year-old man asked them to leave, which lead to a “verbal altercation.”
They say it escalated quickly into a physical fight, where one of the suspects stabbed the victim before running away with the other suspect.
The CPS says the man was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition, but his condition has since become stable.
A few hours later, at around 5:30 p.m., officers were contacted by the Central Library security team for reports of two men with similar descriptions entering the library’s downtown building.
Police say the two suspects were then arrested near the Central Library.
The two 20-year-old suspects are both from Burnaby, B.C.
Samif Namier has been charged with three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime, and aggravated assault.
Meanwhile, Ahmed Mohamed has been charged with aggravated assaults.
They are set to appear in court Wednesday.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police at 403-266-1234, or leave a tip anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
