The Calgary Police Service (CPS) has ruled the death of a woman who’s body was found in Deerfoot Athletic Park a homicide, after an autopsy was completed Friday.
She’s been identified as 58-year-old Judy Maerz.
Officers say they received reports of a body in the park at 1616 8 Avenue NE around 10:35 a.m. Thursday.
Police say a “fire” was set in the park, and it may have been used to hide the evidence.
Police are asking anyone who has a dashcam footage and visited the park or who was driving northbound on Deerfoot Trail between Memorial Drive and 16 Avenue NE Thursday morning to contact them.
“So there may have been smoke, something that caught somebody’s attention,” said Staff Sgt. Sean Gregson of the CPS Homicide Unit.
“We are currently interviewing friends and associates of Ms. Maerz in order to determine her recent activity. This investigation remains in the early stages and we are looking to speak with all potential witnesses.”
You can contact the CPS at 403-266-1234 or leave a tip anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
