Calgary’s Tim Hunter is heading to Alberta’s Hockey Hall of Fame, Hockey Alberta announced on Monday.

The tough-as-nails winger helped bring the Stanley Cup to the city in 1989, spending over a decade in Calgary Flames silks.

Hunter was drafted by the Atlanta Flames in 1979 and selected 54th overall.

He made his NHL debut in the 1981-82 season, playing for his hometown team since the organization relocated to Calgary.

He also made stops in Quebec with the Nordiques, and was a member of the Canucks before spending his final season in San Jose in 1996-97.

Hunter, an active member of the Flames alumni, finished his NHL career with 815 games, 62 goals, 76 assists, 138 points, and over 3,100 minutes in penalties.

The 63-year-old’s coaching career has seen numerous stops in the NHL, with the Moose Jaw Warriors in the WHL and Canada’s World Junior program.

These days, he lends his time to the Calgary Police Youth Foundation, the Flames First Start program, the Flames Alumni Hockey School, Heros Hockey, the Canadian Down Syndrome Society, the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Association, The 65 Roses Sports Club, and Rehabilitation Association of Calgary.

Joining Hunter in the 2023 Alberta Hockey Hall of Fame class: Charlie Huddy, Earl Ingarfield Sr., Karen Kost, Bobby Olynyk and John Utendale. The Edmonton Chimos, Alberta’s longest-running Senior Women’s AAA hockey program, will be recognized under the Decade of Excellence.

The induction gala is slated for July in Canmore.
