Calgary police charge man linked to five armed robberies

Calgary police have charged a man they say is linked to numerous armed robberies that happened on Sunday and Monday.
They say the first four happened between 1-1:30 p.m., where he allegedly entered four businesses in the city’s northwest.
Officers say the suspect “brandished a weapon.” while inside three of the business and demanded money from staff before fleeing.
On Monday at around 5:20 p.m., investigators say the same suspect entered a restaurant on the corner of Lancock Drive and Centre Street NW and threatened an employee with a weapon demanding cash.
Police say the suspect fled in a dark-coloured SUV, which police found later. The suspect was arrested at a nearby business.
Officers charge 41-year-old William Orville Truax with five counts of robbery and three counts of wearing a disguise with intent.
It’s unclear what kind of weapon the suspect was holding.
He will appear in court on April 12.
