Calgary’s own Todd McFarlane holds rare signing at southeast mall

By Todd Kaufman

It’s not every day that a world-famous comic book artist and creator comes to town, but that’s exactly what happened over the weekend in Calgary.

Todd McFarlane decided to hold a free signing Sunday while in the city at Video Game Trader in Lake Bonavista Promenade.

He ended up signing for well over six hours as hundreds of fans lined up, some as early as 4 a.m.

His dad even accompanied him and spent some time chatting with people in line.

McFarlane, who was born in Calgary, is best known for his work as an artist on The Amazing Spider-Man and as the creator of the Spawn comic book series. He was also a one-time part-owner of the Edmonton Oilers and even designed the logo on the team’s alternate jerseys.

City’s Todd Kaufman caught up with Video Game Trader owner Jeff McNair to talk about how the event came together.
