Dozens of firefighters brought a massive blaze under control in Calgary’s southwest neighbourhood of Silverado on Tuesday.
CFD Battalion Chief Scott Cowan says it was clear to crews the fire was big before they even arrived on the scene on the 200 block of Silverado Drive SW just after midnight.
“They realized pretty quickly that it was a garage fire that was quickly extending to the garages nearby as well as the houses,” he told 660 NewsRadio.
Around 44 firefighters tackled the blaze at its peak.
Cowan says the three people inside made it out in time. Two garages were destroyed, and a home was significantly damaged, Cowan explained.
“Unfortunately, the three people who live there won’t be able to return to their home anytime soon until it’s repaired,” he said.
“There was significant damage to a couple of other houses as well, but those folks will be able to reoccupy their homes.”
No injuries were reported.
An investigation into the cause is underway.
