Calgary police have seized more than $250,000 in drugs and firearms and charged three men in a drug trafficking investigation.
The investigation began in November 2022 and was meant to target drug traffickers in Calgary. It included the use of undercover cops, patrol officers, and organized crime detectives.
Then, on March 9, officers executed search warrants on four homes and two vehicles in various parts of the city.
Police say the areas include the corner of 6 Avenue and 4 Street SE, a home along the 100 block of Pantella Close NW, a home on Tarawood Road NE, and the corner of 25 Avenue and 6 Street NW.
A total of five men were taken into custody, with two of them later released.
Investigators seized numerous items, including 3.3 kilograms of cocaine, 625 grams of methamphetamine, 233 g of fentanyl, and CAD$45,000.
The weapons include a 12-gauge shotgun, a Winchester Model 70 rifle, a loaded 9 mm PF-Series Polymer 80 firearm with no serial number, a semi-automatic 6.35 mm handgun, and brass knuckles.
The men arrested are 36-year-old Saad Khan, 31-year-old Syed Jafry, and 27-year-old Humzah Tariq.
Khan and Jafary are facing a combined 31 charges, which include possession charges, careless storage of a firearm, possession of a firearm, and possession of a weapon obtained by crime. They are expected to appear in court on April 12.
Tariq is facing one charge that is shared with the other two suspects: one count of possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000. He is expected in court Friday.
The charges have not been proven in court.
“These offenders were in possession of unlawfully obtained firearms and created significant risk to Calgarians. The unlawful possession of firearms continues to be a priority for us as resources from across our Service work to target, suppress and disrupt those responsible for gun violence in Calgary,” said S Sgt. Lena Blight in a statement.
