Claresholm RCMP cruiser struck by semi

Claresholm RCMP say a police cruiser was struck by a semi while in the middle of a traffic stop south of Calgary Friday.
At around 12:15 p.m., an RCMP officer was on the northbound side of Highway 2 north of Stavely conducting a traffic stop in a fully marked cruiser with its lights flashing when a semi tractor trailer struck the police car.

Mounties say the officer was standing by the driver’s side door of the vehicle he pulled over at the time.
The officer suffered minor injuries due to flying debris.
Police say the driver of the stopped vehicle was unharmed, but his vehicle was damaged in the crash.

The RCMP collision reconstructionist is on the scene, with the investigation ongoing.
Delays are expected until the road is cleared.
