One Calgarian is questioning the safety of parked cars at CTrain stations after someone smashed the window of his parked car and stole his garage fob to break into his house and steal whatever they could get.
“My car was parked at the Tuscany Ctrain Station and sometime between 7 a.m. and noon, they came and broke the front driver-side window and got access to my garage door opener,” Rockcliff Grove resident Adeel Siddiqui told CityNews.
“They used my insurance slip to find my address and broke into my home.”
On June 5, Siddiqui says arrived at home and found all of his valuables stolen. A neighbour’s CCTV camera captured two thieves going into his house through the garage door and then coming out through the back door with the loot.
“Their car, the make, the number, their faces are pretty visible, we have the video and we provided it to the police. They stole everything. When I went inside I found that they took all the jewelry, the furniture was broken, the console, laptops, phones, everything was gone,” said Siddiqui.
In a statement to CityNews, the Calgary Police Service (CPS) say the suspects appear to be in their 20s, and the vehicle they were travelling in is believed to be a gold, early 2000s Lexus RX with mismatched rims.
Police say, if anyone has additional CCTV footage from the area or information about the incident, they should contact the police non-emergency line.
Shocked by this incident, Siddiqui and his family are questioning the safety of their residential community as well as parking at CTrain stations.
“This community doesn’t seem that safe anymore. And if you park your car at the Ctrain Station, there are patrolling police, they can find if you have not paid for your parking or not, they can call you and give you a ticket, but if they can see the car window is broken, they cannot call you? That’s amazing. I don’t know why,” he said.

Siddiqui says parking his car at the Ctrain station has led to all this chaos but more than monetary damage, he is worried about the mental well-being of his family.
“My kids and my family doesn’t want to go back to the house, it seems that its unsafe. We haven’t slept at our house since the incident happened, we are sleeping at a friend’s house. My kids do not feel safe to go inside the house anymore,” Siddiqui said.
Since the incident happened, Siddiqui has been quite vocal on social media. He says he’s been trying to warn his fellow community members about keeping a garage fob in their cars, and not to park at CTrain stations.
