Calgary police warn of high-risk offender

Calgary police are issuing a public notice and warning about a high-risk offender who has been released into the community.

Investigators say 30-year-old Gurbir Singh Mangat was released Friday. He was serving four years for a “series of stranger sexual assaults.”

According to police, in 2018, Mangat would target women in downtown Calgary, including at a retail store, walking path, and outside an apartment building.

Mangat will be monitored by the Calgary Police Service High-Risk Offender Program.

He is described as 6’4″ tall and weighs 188 lbs. Mangat has black hair and brown eyes.

“Members of the public are advised that the intent of the process is to enable members of the public to take suitable precautionary measures and not to embark on any form of vigilante action,” police explain.
