By Phil Wood

Alberta is raising the loan limit for beef producers, meaning they can borrow up to $3 million — up from the previous limit of $2 million.

This comes as cattle prices have jumped by 25 per cent so far this year.

Minister of Agriculture RJ Sigurdson says the province wants to help with the capital required to keep producing Alberta’s world-renowned beef.

Meanwhile, the NDP is asking the UCP to rustle up a similar relief package for farmers.

It has been an exceptionally disruptive growing season with fires, floods, twisters, and now drought-like conditions.

Heather Sweet, the NDP’s agriculture critic, says  the province is sending disaster relief to municipalities, but so far no added cash is heading to farmers.
