Lethbridge police find fentanyl laced candy bears in park

Police in Lethbridge have confirmed they’ve found fentanyl in candy bears that were found in the Galt Gardens.

Police say on June 20, officers found an unattended bag of candy on the east side of the park.

Upon looking inside, they found a small quantity of bear shaped candy that looked fentanyl coloured, or greenish-blue.

The candy-looking bears were run through a lab analysis, which confirmed what the officers had suspected. On top of fentanyl, the bears were also laced with bromazolen and caffeine.

In another search of the park, officers have not found any additional fentanyl bears.

“Given the extreme toxicity of fentanyl and the potential for significant harm had a child or other unsuspecting person located the bear, police issued a public warning prior to sending the drugs away for analysis,” said Lethbridge police in a statement.

Police do advise if anyone has found a suspicious substance, not to touch the item, and contact police immediately.
