Calgary police say CrimeStoppers tip lead to charges in trafficking case

Calgary police say two people have been arrested and charged after a CrimeStoppers tip led to the seizure of multiple weapons and more than $7,700 in illegal drugs.

In August, following that anonymous tip, officers began investigating two people thought to be involved in drug trafficking in the city’s southwest.

On Aug. 31, a search warrant was executed at the Ambassador Motor Inn on 16 Avenue NE, where two people thought to be involved in the investigation were seen driving stolen vehicles and staying in a room at the motel.

Police seized 60.1 grams of methamphetamine with a street value of $3,005, 4.3 grams of crack cocaine with a street value of $430, 43.6 grams of fentanyl with a street value of $4,360, $390 cash, two BMX-style bikes, an airsoft replica handgun, knife, and baton.

Calvin McKay, 39, of Calgary, has been charged with one count of proceeds of crime, three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, eight counts of failure to comply with a release order, and six counts of possession of stolen property.

Brianna Many Bears, 23, of Calgary. has been charged with one count of proceeds of crime, and three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Investigators say more charges are ahead in connection to the investigation.
