Calgarians skydiving to raise money for kids with cancer

By Todd Kaufman

Nearly 40 Calgarians are preparing to jump for a perfectly good airplane Saturday to raise money for kids with cancer.

The fourth annual Jump for a Cure fundraiser goes at 10 a.m. at Skydive Extreme Calgary in Beiseker.

Most of the skydivers have been affected by cancer in one way or another and will be joining parents from the Kids Cancer Care community who have lost a child or seen their child come through cancer.

Event organizer Brian van Vliet says they wanted to do something that takes a little bit of courage — like jumping out of a plane — to honour the children and their families who are displaying bravery while battling the horrific disease.

Over the past three years, Jump for a Cure has raised more than $75,000 for Kids Cancer Care.

Jump for a Cure is family-friendly and includes demonstrations from professional skydivers, an online 50/50 draw, a kid’s playground, and more.

Funds raised go toward kids Kids Cancer Care’s research, therapeutic, recreational, and educational programs.
