Alberta’s first “mental health park” is having its grand opening Saturday in northwest Calgary.
The Parks Foundation and the City of Calgary are celebrating the opening of The Brawn Family Foundation Rotary Park, which is for children and youth in need of mental health support.
It is right next to “The Summit: Marian and Jim Sinneave Centre for Youth Resilience,” a youth mental health facility that opened in March 2023, with the park breaking ground at around that time.

The grand opening is being marked with a spoken word performance by MelVee X, a drumming circle by Circles of Rhythm, a boulder wall for people to climb, or “painting a rock” to add to the park’s labyrinth.
The free event is at 12:30 p.m. and runs until 2 p.m. at 1205 17A Street NW.
