Calgary man faces dozens of charges in gun, drug seizure

A man is facing 27 charges after Calgary police seized five guns and almost $300,000 worth of drugs.

Around 7:45 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 18, police responded to a call for shots fired on Woodview Terrace SW.

When they got there, officers found a man in a stairwell who had ben shot.

He was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition.

Police then cleared the house to make sure no one else was inside.

There, they found mulitple guns a loaded magazine.

The next day, on Sunday, police searched the home and found five guns, two full sets of body armour, a half set of body armour, ammunition and a variety of drugs.

Calgary police say six kilograms of fentanyl valued at $208, 652, 1.2 kilograms of methamphetamine valued at $36,382, 837 grams of cocaine valued at $40,393, 1,607 pills of Xanax valued at $8,035 and around seven kilograms of an unknown substance were seized.

Investigators have now charged 27-year-old Omar El Gad has been charged with five counts each of possession of a firearm contrary to order, possession of an unauthorized firearm, possession of a restricted or prohibited firearm, and careless use of a firearm.

He is also charged with four counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and three counts of possession of body armour without a permit.

Gad is set to appear in court Monday.

Police say there are currently no suspects in custody for the shooting.
