Calgary Hitmen blueliner Carter Yakemchuk is the Western Hockey League’s (WHL) Player of the Week.
He put up two goals and three assists as Calgary moved into a playoff spot.
It’s been an impressive stretch for the local kid who recently returned from the 2024 Kubota CHL/NHL Top Prospects.
He also leads the WHL in d-man scoring with 20 goals.
Yakemchuk is 2024 NHL Entry Draft-eligible, and NHL Central Scouting has the 18-year-old ranked sixth among all North American skaters.
This marks the first time a Calgary player has won the weekly honour this season.
Since the Hitmen have a point in nine of their last 10 games, they have pushed past the Prince Albert Raiders into the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
The Hitmen are back in action later this week with three games in three days, starting Friday in Edmonton.
