Calgary police continue search for suspect in bank robberies

Calgary police are asking for more help to identify the suspect in a pair of bank robberies in the city.

Investigators first reached out to the public in February for help in finding a man who went into a Scotiabank on Crowchild Trail SW and left with an unknown amount of money after gesturing to an employee that he had a gun.

Police now believe the same person is responsible for another bank robbery that happened in the northeast a couple of weeks later.

Around 6 p.m. on Friday, March 1, a disguised man entered the RBC Royal Bank on Sunridge Way NE.

He apparently handed a “robbery note” to a staff member and gestured that he had a weapon, according to investigators.

As the staff member was attempting to comply with the demands of the robbery note, the man suddenly stepped away from the bank teller’s booth and left the bank before police got there, without any money.

No weapon was seen and no injuries were reported, police say.

Investigators are reaching out once again in hopes of identifying the man.

He is described as about 30 to 40 years old, approximately 5’8″ tall, 200 pounds, with a large build, long hair, and a beard.

Police say he was last seen wearing a grey toque with a red stripe, a blue medical mask, a black vest, a black hoodie, blue jeans, and black and white shoes.

It’s also believed he was driving a blue Dodge Ram 1500.
