Calgary police say they are investigating after a sign in support of the campaign to recall Mayor Jyoti Gondek was vandalized.
A video circulating on X, formerly Twitter, shows two women painting a sign with the words “Respect Gondek” where it previously said “Recall Gondek,” and hearts.

In a statement to CityNews, police say officers were called to Parkdale Boulevard NW and 30 Street NW around 10:20 a.m. on Tuesday, March 19, for reports of property damage to a billboard on a grassy median.
The Calgary Police Service (CPS) says the investigation into the incident is ongoing, and anyone with information on the matter is encouraged to call police.
A campaign was started by local business owner Landon Johnston in late January to recall Mayor Jyoti Gondek, who was elected in 2021.
Legislation was updated by the Alberta government in 2022 to allow eligible voters to file petitions to recall politicians, including mayors and municipal councillors.
More than 500,000 handwritten signatures must be collected for the initiative to be successful.
The deadline to collect the required number of signatures is April 4.
